Fasting draws us closer to God by helping us focus on Him instead of worldly distractions. However, planning to fast requires thought and prayer to ensure it is done with the right heart and purpose. It is not about earning God’s favour but humbly seeking Him with devotion.
Matthew 6:16 says, “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full” (NIV). Make sure you fast with humility, not for outward recognition or selfish pride.
Consider three things: your physical health, ensuring it won’t harm you, and issues like diabetes, cancer, or eating disorders. Check with your doctor first. Your motivation is focusing on God, not obligation, and your humility lets it be a private act of worship. Thoughtful fasting brings clarity, strength, and spiritual renewal.
