The shortest verse in the Bible, “Jesus wept” (John 11:35, NLT), carries profound meaning. It occurs as Jesus approaches the tomb of His friend Lazarus. Even though He knew He was about to raise Lazarus from the dead, Jesus was deeply moved by the sorrow of Mary, Martha, and others mourning their loss. His tears reveal His compassion, showing He fully understands our pain and grief.
This moment demonstrates the humanity of Jesus alongside His divinity. He doesn’t dismiss our emotions or tell us to "move on"; instead, He enters into our sorrow, sharing it with us. Knowing that the Son of God weeps with us in our most challenging moments strengthens our faith, reminding us that He is always near, comforting and understanding.
This short verse, “Jesus wept” assures us that we serve a God who has the power to overcome death and cares deeply about our struggles.
