This was the final passover meal Jesus had with His disciples. The breaking of bread and the drinking of wine, was a prophetic statement of the future relationship Jesus would have with us.
Jesus knew his time on earth was at it’s end and he wanted to leave an amazing instruction by example. 1 Corinthians 11:23-25 says ‘on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”’ (NIV)
There is no better time to have communion than today. To lay down sin and failure and to embrace the power of the risen Christ in our lives.
Quote
Everything Jesus did was prophetic, even the Last Supper.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that You went through the journey of the cross for me to be redeemed. Amen.
Action Point
It’s not normally a church tradition to hold communion today, but you could still do it yourself or with a friend.
